The authorized professional guides who work in the Helsinki area are members of one of the two local associations, Helsingin Turistioppaat ry or Helsingfors Auktoriserade Turistguider rf. They have altogether 300 members.

For membership, the associations require the completion of one year’s guide course with oral and written final exams and a very good knowledge of at least one language apart from maternal Finnish or Swedish.

The associations

  • Offer an online list of their members to incoming travel agencies which are members of Association of Finnish Travel Agencies AFTA, www.smal.fi
  • Promote their competence by organizing continuous education in the form of lectures, visits and seminars. The themes vary from topical events like the Sibelius150 celebration to enhancing professional skills like marketing and information technology
  • Maintain this website

The members of the two associations completed approximately 15 000 guided tours in 2014.
