Official
Tourist Guides

The city of Helsinki has approximately 300 official tourist guides. All the guides have received a compulsory one-year basic training period.

Official guides are required to pass the European Council’s standard language test for all the languages they wish to guide in that are not their own mother tongue.

The Guide
Associations

Official tourist guides are required to update their knowledge at annual training courses throughout their guiding career. The two bodies responsible for overseeing the guide training are Helsingfors Auktoriserade Turistguider rf (chairman Camilla Nordblad) and Helsingin Turistioppaat ry (chairman Sisko Kulin).

How to book
a guide?

The guide association does not hire guides out but they do provide and update lists of working guides for the companies that employ guides. You can ask you travel agency to contact for example the following Incoming agencies - matkatoimistot to book a trained official guide.

How to recognize
a trained guide?

Official guides can be recognised by their uniform of green jackets and silver badges sporting the Helsinki crest.
